Cholargos is located in the Northern Sector of Athens and serves as the seat of the Municipality of Papagou-Cholargos. The area is named after the ancient municipality of Cholargos, birthplace of the Athenian statesman Pericles. Although the ancient settlement was likely located further from today's Cholargos, the modern suburb honors its past through its name and local landmarks.
